La Herradura Vineyard is owned by the Rogers family and located on the steep foothills of Conn Valley between St. Helena and Lake Hennessey. The vines experience fairly intense sun exposure due to their uphill climbing orientation and grow upon clay and rocky rich soils. The grapes are harvested, destemmed and fermented in open-top tanks, before transferring to barrel with wild yeast and wild malolactic bacteria to complete fermentation. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.
Aromatically this wine has notes of inky road tar with dark, ripe black and blue fruits with a finishing bouquet of crushed rose petals. On the palate, the wine is much sweeter black fruit-forward, with warm vanilla and rich, round tannins.
