Melanson Vineyard located in Pritchard Hill was established in 1988 by Greg Melanson. The vineyard is extremely steep, with rows of vines running up and down the hills. Due to its higher elevation, the vines are exposed to a cooling afternoon breeze coming from the Pacific to balance out the warm sun exposure. The soil is a mixture of Sobrante and clay loam, with a scattering of large rocks throughout. After harvest and fermentation, the wines are aged in 100% French oak barrels. This wine is considered TOR's most age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon.
Aromatically the wine is full of dark, perfectly ripened black fruits such as figs, cassis, and blackberries with notes of exotic spices, dried flowers, and fine black tea. On the palate, the wine is equally floral and black fruit-driven, with notes of damp forest floor, and fine tannins.
