The fruit for TOR Wine's Oakville Hillside Cabernet Sauvignon hails from Tierra Roja vineyard. Tierra Roja is a four-acre best-kept secret vineyard that was planted hillside in 1989 in Oakville. The land has been tended by Linda Neal since the late eighties, and since 2010 has only sold the fruit to TOR Wines. The vineyard was named in honor of its soil, iron-rich red volcanic soils with large red rocks throughout hailing from the Vaca Mountains. The west-facing steep and terraced hillside slopes reach ideal ripeness from the classically Oakville warm afternoon sun. This specific bottling hails from the upper block of the Tierra Roja vineyard. After harvest, the grapes are fermented with small amounts of Cabernet Franc added, and are left on the skin for an extended period of time to enhance the wines grip. The wine is aged for 20 months in new French oak, before being bottled without filtration or fining.
Aromatically the wine is extremely fruity, with notes of cassis, cherries, ripe raspberries and balancing notes of green peppercorns and pencil shavings. On the palate, the wine is juicy with ripe, chewy tannins as well as rocky minerality. The wine is ready to drink now and has heaps of aging potential.
