The fruit utilized in "The Integral" hails from single-vineyard Radiant Ridge in Bennet Valley. Farmed by a friend, Chris Bowland, the vineyard was planted back in 2013 at 1200 feet elevation, just below the top of Bennett peak and high above Bennett Valley itself. The vines, a combination of Syrah and Mourvedre, grow upon beds of Goulding clay loam soil. Though the site is cool, the nights tend to be a bit warmer. Some of the Syrah was fermented as 100% whole-cluster while we co-fermented the remaining Syrah and Mourvèdre in various combinations and whole-cluster amounts. In the end, the 100% whole-cluster Syrah made the final blend along with a tank of 50/50 fully de-stemmed Syrah and Mourvèdre, and a tank of 44% Mourvèdre (all whole cluster) and 56% Syrah (fully destemmed).
Aromatically the wine is extremely savory, with notes of black olives, salty smoked game, and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with balancing flavors of black/ blue fruits, fresh topsoil, and spices.
