"If perhaps a touch less potent and a little more polished than it cellarmate from Beckstoffer To Kalon, this very rich and well-focused wine leads with voluminous, oak-infused aromas of precise curranty fruit and follows with like-minded flavors that show both power and grace. Supple and plush yet firmed by carefully placed tannins, it is built for lengthy keeping, and, if it drifts to a bit of finishing toughness, its prospects for the future are as good as good gets."

"Dark berry and mineral scents are comlicated by iron, tobacco and dried rose. Livelier red fruits join the dark berries on the palate, which is velvety in texture and seems tannin-free (which it isn't). Luscious red and dark berry compote qualitites dominate the long, supple finish. You could easily drink this seductive wine right now, but I wouldn't."

"Tannic, broodingly backward, tough-textured, and nearly impossible to penetrate, the 2006 cabernet sauvignon stagecoach vineyard possesses good density, purity, and depth, but it requires 4-5 years of cellaring. Atypically tannic and austere for the vintage, it should be at its finest between 2012-2025+."

2006 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard
Paul Hobbs Winery
Sourced from high atop the Eastern slopes of Napa Valley, this is a muscular, cabernet sauvignon with a dense, black garnet hue and big aromas of dark cherry, tobacco and mocha. Intensity and depth of flavor characterize a palate that seamlessly weaves assertive, concentrated flavors of cassis and black plum with clean earth that carries through the mid-palate and is joined by balanced acidity on the finish. Tannins are bold, ripe, chewy and well integrated. |
