"Chappellet's secret is that Cabernet Sauvignon isn't the only thing they know how to do. Granted, their Chards have off years, but in general they make one of the valley's best Chardonnays. The 2008 is right up there with the '04 and '07. Ripe in pineapples, peaches and pears, it avoids the herbaceousness that can mar Napa Chardonnay. Very fine."

"Rich, layered and full-bodied, with a mix of toasty oak, ripe fig, anise and honeysuckle, holding its tight focus and ending with a long, persistent finish. Drink now through 2015.J.L."

2008 Chappellet Chardonnay Napa
Chappellet Winery
Chappellet’s Napa Valley Chardonnay is produced from fruit grown in the coolest regions of Napa Valley. Overlooking the San Pablo Bay, Kelly Ranch receives the benefits of the Bay’s marine influences, creating optimal growing conditions for Chardonnay. Excellent acidity and minerality bring a little bit of Burgundy to the Napa Valley!
Vivid and rich, our Chardonnay is produced from fruit grown in the southern reaches of Napa Valley. Here the cooling marine influence of the San Pablo Bay is famed for enhancing the abundant fruit flavors of this varietal. This wine's vibrant citrus notes and silky texture are beautifully balanced, with depth and richness achieved from sur lie ageing in French oak barrels and full malolactic fermentation.
An aromatic mélange of tangerine, pear and nutmeg greets the nose. Upon tasting, waves of rich pineapple and lemon are framed by a subtle layer of oak spice. The palate is round and lush, and the natural acidity of these cool-climate Chardonnay grapes gives the wine a refreshing finish. |
